Makalu Base Camp Trek is a challenging trek that takes you to the lap of the fifth highest mountain in the world, Mount Makalu (8,481m). The trek starts from Tumlingtar and passes through several remote Himalayan hamlets, lush forests, and raging rivers before reaching the Makalu Base Camp. The trek offers a unique opportunity to explore the unspoiled beauty of the Makalu-Barun National Park, home to over 3,000 species of plants, 440 species of birds, and over 75 species of mammals, including the elusive snow leopard, red panda, and Himalayan black bear.
The trek provides panoramic views of some of the highest peaks in the world, including Mount Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Cho Oyu (8,153m), and Kanchenjunga (8,586m). The high- altitude trek requires acclimatization and physical fitness, mostly due to a steep ascent from the Arun River Valley.
The best time to undertake the Makalu Base Camp Trek is during spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November), when the weather is favorable for trekking, and the views of the surrounding high mountains are crystal-clear. The trek requires a reliable guide and porter, permits, and necessary gear to ensure a safe and comfortable journey.
